Summary Of The Book

Dan Mayur, a chemical engineer with a corporate career in the construction and oil industries spanning decades, has travelled extensively across the world. But his travels have covered India, the US, and Scandinavia more than other regions. An Indian by birth, the authors career made him settle in the US. His work took him across other places often, especially Sweden.

Over the past several years, he has observed major changes in all these places. Even in the middle of the t...wentieth century, countries were able to remain largely insular in a pseudo-protective cocoon, not bothered too much by happenings half way across the globe.

This is not true anymore. The communication revolution has shrunk the world into the cliched global village. Now, an event in Bangalore could trigger a response in New York, within minutes. Businesses are now interlinked globally, and peoples lives are intertwined in ways never thought of before.

In this changing setting of satellite communication, the word wide web and the social media, cultural and political barriers are also crumbling, as these technologies enable instant communication across continents.

As the world becomes increasingly networked and homogenized, there is also a struggle to hold on to the unique identities in each part of the world. Sometimes, this also leads to conflicts.? The author, in his travels, has observed the changes, the good and the bad, and records them in his book.

Mumbai To Stockholm Via New York?is a study of the social, political, and cultural upheavals in each region, and the authors own views on these, and his predictions for the future of all three countries, India, USA and Sweden. He has seen how the technological changes have impacted tradition and customs in many ways.

He expresses his views on many topics such as politics, economy, infrastructure, energy, communication, culture, and womens rights.?Mumbai To Stockholm Via New York?will be of interest to anyone wanting to acquire a bit more understanding of any or all of these three regions.
